Many races inhabit the world of Maelstrom, mortals and Immortals alike. Despite having the aid of magic, humans still find themselves powerless against the constrains of the world and unable to seek out inhabitants beyond their own plane, the Mortal Realms. But through study and communication, some light is shed on beings that once called another plane home.

An immortal race with elven ears and bird wings that came to the Mortal Realms' aid during the Catharsis. They were most vividly described by tales of the Catharsis because of their large number and their appearance. Just like the elves, they were never seen again in the centuries after the Catharsis, but is ironically the race that is most convincingly believed to exist because of records and folklore.

A human-like race that possesses animal features. There are 4-5 known races of animals which Beast-Humans take semblance after, the most common being cats (Enfelids) and dogs (Encanids). They have been living in scattered tribes and colonies across the world, away from human civilization until recent years. Aside from the natural ability to use Elemental magic, Beast-Humans can also learn to shapeshift into their respective animal form. There is hostility between different groups within the Beast-Human race.

Location: The Overworld
Holy spirit are spiritual entities that are said to inhabit the Overworld. They are the purest form of holy magic. Only the most powerful holy spirits can possess a mind of its own, maintain a consistent form, and be perceived by mortal senses. However, these properties prevent these sentient beings from passing through the seal between the worlds. Most spirits are naught more than sand in the wind, and can be freely called into the Mortal Realms for use in sorcery, and return to the overworld if the current carries it there.

Location: The Underworld
Demon spirit are spiritual entities that are said to inhabit the Underworld. It holds the same nature as holy spirit and differs only in appearance and origin.

A human-like immortal race with pointed ears that, along with other immortal races, descended onto the Mortal Realms during the Catharsis to save the realm from certain destruction. They look most similar to humans out of all the immortal races that descended during the Catharsis, and subsequently hardest to distinguish and most elusive of all of them. Humans were only certain of their existence because of their brief mentions during conversations with fairies.

Fairies have elven ears, dragon-fly wings, and are usually seen embellish themselves in ornate, metallic adornments. They are the only race of the immortals that came to the Mortal Realms' aid during the Catharsis that have come into contact with and spoken with humans during the centuries that followed. Though the number of meetings can still be counted on a mere hand, the information shared by the fairies tremendously helped build the bare bones of human understanding of the Overworld.

The largest civilization in the Mortal Realms. Although they are born without any natural magical affinity, they have long studied and learned the art of making up for their ineptitude with spirits, and have woven magic into their everyday life.

Mermaids have elven ears, fish-like fins, and have been sighted both in the Veil--the oceans that surround the lands on which mortals dwell--and in unrelenting bulbous clouds of the skies. Said to have originally come from the Overworld, mermaids were one of the immortals that descended upon the Mortal Realms during the Catharsis to save the realm from certain destruction.
