Carciphonas, victims of spiritual contamination at birth, are condemned to a short and painful life. They cannot survive pass adolescence, but the few who defy this fact would bring the world to its knees.

In a world teeming with magic, where existence itself is made of spirits, the once beloved Demon magic is now despised and forbidden. Four years ago, the Prohibition sprang from the trail of corpses left behind by an infamous assassin. Blackbird, they called her, and a Carciphona, they insisted she must be, for she was said to defy magic itself. Warriors and royalty alike were felled by her, and in fear, the people grasped for a cause. If it took giving up Demon magic to prevent Carciphonas like her from appearing again, then so be it, the world decreed.

And so it was that the screams of the murders fell silent again, as did the songs of Demon magic beneath this tense mist. Fake or real, people settled back into their prized peace, and looked the other way.

Volume 1
November 19 2006 ~ April 17 2010

Magic blessed the world with impossible power, but it also cursed the world with Carciphonas: humans whose souls are infected by Demon spirits. Four years after the Prohibition of magic is established, a sorceress still lives hidden away, giving up her freedom in exchange for peace. However, Veloce soon finds herself the target of an assassin intent on shattering the fragile peace.

Volume 2
April 17 2010 ~ November 14 2011

After defying the king, an ailing Veloce and company flee from Kronzel. Refuge is close by in the neighboring country of Arenscura; Keritzel and Weirin's resources promise a smooth escape as well. However, the forces of the Kronzel, the assassin Blackbird, and the mysterious spiritual illness that plagues Veloce give chase as the trio attempts to make their escape.

Volume 3
February 1 2012 ~ October 1 2012

Veloce, Weirin, and Keritzel arrive at Arenscura seeking refuge, only to find the city entangled in its own troubles. Allegiances are tested when it is discovered that Meron consorts with the criminal Enfelid tribe warring against Arenscura. Amidst the conflict, they discover the true depth of the crisis before them: knots, bonds and grudges rooted deeply in time.

Volume 4
January 2013 ~ December 2013

Trapped and separated in the Rift, Meron and her group are shocked at what has become of the Enfelids' Book of Elements. Bitter denial overwhelms the Enfelid Chief, and Meron must choose between family and service. Meanwhile, Veloce's confrontation with Blackbird leads to unforseen consequences.

June 2014 ~ June 2016

Veloce rushes to Medrisen with an eagerness that perplexes Keritzel and Weirin. With crucial information about Vocruen's whereabouts in hand, she hopes to find him at he Holy Spirit Celebrations. Once there, they realize they are not the only ones in search of someone precious. In their path they find a mythical being: an Immortal.

Volume 6
October 2016 ~ March 2018

The fairy of Medrisen nearly captures Veloce’s soul with her song, only to be stopped by Veloce’s long missing servant, Vocruen. Furious from being once again denied what she coveted, the fairy unleashes her influence as a necromancer, threatening to pave the way to her goals with the corpses of all who still draw breath.

Volume 7
February 2019 ~ November 2020

Medrisen and its defenders have exhausted all their resources, and Veloce threw herself back into danger in exchange for a sorely needed window of opportunity; but for all their effort, they only briefly halted the fairy necromancer’s advance. Defeat seems inevitable, but Veloce is not ready to give up yet. She has one last trick up her sleeve; will it be enough to overcome an Immortal who possesses True Clairvoyance that can see through all deception?
